Which is Cheaper to Install: Tank or Tankless Water Heaters?
Doylestown, PA Tank & Tankless Water Heater Services
When it comes time to replace your water heater, you may be surprised to see that there is a new option on the market. You may choose to replace your old tank heater with a similar model, but you no longer have only that option. You can also choose to have a tankless water heater installed, which heats water only as you need it.
If you are interested in learning more about tankless water heaters and how they compare to traditional tank models, call RG White HVAC & Plumbing today. One of our plumbers can discuss with you the differences between both models and how each will work in your home.
The cost of installing a new water heater can be very different between tank and tankless models. A tank water heater is very inexpensive to install, especially when replacing an existing model that isn’t leaking and has good connections. We will simply remove the old tank water heater and replace it with a new model that offers a similar capacity.
A tankless water heater, on the other hand, requires more intensive installation. It must be installed carefully in your home at the source of the water for your hot water taps. This allows us to connect it to the tap so it only turns on when you need hot water.
Do Tank Water Heaters Outperform Tankless Ones?
While traditional or tank type water heaters cost much less to install, they cost much more to operate. Because you are continuously heating a tank of water for use even when it’s not needed, you pay for hot water 24/7. A tankless water heater, on the other hand, only turns on when you need hot water, thus offering a lower cost of operation.
A tank water heater needs annual maintenance in addition to regular maintenance by the homeowner to ensure that it operates as efficiently as possible. Sediment buildup, pipe backups and clogs, and gas burner issues can lead to drop-offs in efficiency even before it needs to be replaced. On top of that, the system will not last as long as the newer, tankless models.
A tankless water heater can last much longer as it uses only electrical components and holds no water. Annual maintenance is still recommended, but it can be done much quicker and the chances of finding major issues are smaller.
